Kaitlyn’s Baptism

Kaitlyn turned 8 a few months ago, sorry I am so far behind, and was baptized.  She is getting so big.  They just grow up way to fast.  Her big day was Saturday April 10, 2010.  On Friday, the day before, I packed all of the kids up and headed down to the temple to take some pictures of her in her dresses.

These shots are in her actual baptism dress. 

I had the hardest time to get one of Kaitlyn’s cute smiles to come out during this little photo shoot.

 

It was about here that I noticed that she is wearing blue nail polish.  The first thing we did when we got home was remove it so that it would not get past us for the baptism.

After taking this last shot, I notice that my camera was almost out of batteries.  I was no where near being done with what I wanted to shoot but we had to change into the other dress and take some pictures in it too.

This dress is her dress to wear after she was baptized.  Mom made this dress, I would like to say I helped but all I did was cut out the pieces of the dress.  Mom put in tons of hours actually putting the dress together and it turned out absolutely gorgeous.  Thanks again, Mom!

For some reason knowing that my battery was just about done, I was rushing and didn't end up with any really good pictures in this dress.

  While we had actually met Scott at the temple (he works just a few miles away) he spent most of the time on his cell phone and Spencer was such a trooper helping with the little girls.  I thought this was really sweet.

KK and her Daddy.  Look at how big she is getting, she is only 8 and her dad is 6’2”! This picture shows off the gorgeous dress a little.  Thanks Mom, You’re the Best!

Emmalyn Says Hi

I cannot belive that my baby is already 18 month old.  I took this picture just after we got out of the car after church. She ran around the car and to the front door, I guess she did not want to go in the garage door that day.  Unfortunately it was taken with my cell phone so the quality is not the greatest but she stood at the door saying and waving hi to the cars as they passed. I had the big kids watch her for a second so I could run in and get the camera and take a decent picture.  And this is what I got from her.

   Lots of turning around and running away. At least you can see her cute little curls.

A wink from Hannah

Hannah forever will be the queen of expressions.  You can always tell exactly how Hannah feels by her face, and boy if looks could kill she has a few lethal ones in her repertoire.  How ever this is a super cute one.  She is learning how to wink and it is so fun to watch her. 

She almost has it down, if you look closely her left eye is open just slightly.   

School Spirit Week

I’m back and I have lots to share!

The last week of school was filled with many fun school spirit activites and theme days.  Some of the days were crazy hat day, crazy sock day and crazy hair day.  We had fun coming up with crazy hair do’s with out going too over the top.

Kaitlyn ended up with hair that looked like she belonged in Who-ville.  Spencer was in need of a hair cut at the time.  I first put his hair in a bunch of little pony tails down the middle of his head to create a mowhawk but he decided he couldn't go to school with ponytails (even though they were the little clear rubber bands) so we just made a mowhawk out of his hair and lots of gel.  Here he is showing off the newest version of his cast that he had put on the night before.  The best part is that the cast is waterproof!

Spencer's Trip to the ER

Many of you know that we spent Friday night and Saturday morning in the ER and that Spencer has broken his arm.  Here are some pictures Scott took from the ER with his phone.

All Spencer ever really complained about was how thirsty he was.  He had been playing hard before this happened (around 8:30 pm) so he was really thirsty.  He is our big water lover and has never been denied any water in his life so he really struggled with the fact that he could not get a drink.  Spencer listened to my ipod, to try and relax.  Just that morning I was looking at the playlist I had and almost deleted the one that I had made for when Emmalyn was born, which had lots of piano music and lullaby's, at the time I decided I would wait until I was at the computer before I deleted it but I think it was inspiration not to delete it because it really helped him calm down although this particular picture does not show it.  This is also the only time I have ever even carried the earphones in my purse. 

This is as fun shot of Spencer waking up from the sedation after they tried setting his arm the first time.

This is a picture of the x-ray taken from the side of his arm.  The break  is just to the right of the "x table" notation.  His elbow is to the left and hand to the right side.  Not only did he break both the ulna and radius he bent the bone as well.  (I had no idea that bone could even bend, I thought that they just broke!)  

This is the top view x-ray.  The break is just to the right of the letter "L" on the x-ray. The bones in the hand were pulled back and shifted to the side.  

The break was pretty severe, the orthopedic surgeon is still saying that there is a pretty good chance that they might have to go in and do surgery and put in some pins.  We are lucky that it is his left hand.  Today he is doing much better and in a lot less pain which is a really good sign as to that they are setting properly and hopefully wont need surgery.  We will go back to the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to get more x-rays and find out if they can cast it or if it needs more correction.  

Spencer has been showered with goodies and gifts and is loving it.  He received a nerf gun from a friend that he loves, but cant load by himself because he can only use the one arm, but he has fun with it nonetheless.  Spencer love chocolate chip cookies and this is one of his favorite treats:

Biirrrrrs

I have a few more pictures to write about and share but today the girl are occupying the computer.  The other day on the news they showed an owl box where they were waiting on 5 eggs to hatch.  I remembered it this morning and found it on the web.  One egg has hatched, I think it did yesterday, but the two little girls are just sitting watching this owl and are amazed. I have been able to just leave them sitting in the chair together and actually get a few things accomplished.  Emmalyn is so excited she has even started saying bird, well she is really saying biirrrrrs but we all know what she means.  There are 4 more eggs to hatch and they say that they should hatch every 2 days so the next should happen tomorrow.  After the eggs all hatch they will be in the box for about 80 days before they all "leave the nest".  So if your little ones are curious or like birds here is the link to check it out. http://www.ustream.tv/channel-popup/the-owl-box

I don't like this white stuff….

A week or so ago we were driving to go pick up the big kids from school when Hannah muttered something about “this white stuff”  from her seat in the back of the car.

I had to ask her to tell me again what she was trying to say.  She said,

“Mommy, I do not like this white stuff.

What white stuff, sweetheart?

This white stuff that is coming in the car and going on my legs.

Hannah, that is just the sun because it is not rainy or cloudy today. 

Mommy I see some clouds, so make the white stuff go away.” 

Luckily at that time I turned a corner and the sun was on a different side of the car and I was her hero, well at least for a little while until we had to turn again. 

Isn't it sad that it has been so yucky for so long that she forgot what it was like to have the sun shine on her?

Hannah’s Teeth

Many of you have heard the story of Hannah’s two front teeth but here are some pictures of her showing off her new hole (back in November).  

Here is the short story of what happened:

Scott, Spencer and Hannah were goofing around in the front room when they were supposed to be reading a story before bed.  In the middle (or I guess it was the end of play) of playing around Hannah fell, teeth first into the piano bench.  One tooth was chipped pretty badly, and the other one was bleeding across the middle of the tooth horizontally.  She had fractured the tooth horizontally across the front part of her tooth and when it reached the middle the fracture mad a 90 degree turn and went up through the rest of her tooth up into the gums.  It is really hard to describe but her tooth was completely destroyed and only still in her mouth because they were being held in by her gums.  The first person available to see her was our regular dentist.  We went to the dentist where several of the dentists in the office looked at her and her x-rays and decided that we needed to see a pediatric dentist.  So we waited the day at the pediatric dentist to get in between appointments.  All of them looked at her and her x-rays and were afraid of doing more harm than good because it was fractured so badly and there were small fractures inside the gums.  So they referred us to an oral surgeon that does well with kids but by this time it was after 5 pm and he was closed.  They also tried several other surgeons just to try and get her in that night but didn't have any luck.  The next morning we got a call from the surgeon telling us to come it right away and he would take care of her.  When we got there, the receptionist was calling all of the appointments from that day and pushing their appointments back to squeeze Hannah in first thing.  This guy was amazing.  He did his exam thing and gave us two options.  The fractured tooth obviously had to come out but with the chipped tooth he could pull it too or try a pulpectomy where they scrape all of the nerves and stuff and fill the tooth in with ceramic stuff.  But there was only a 50% chance of it lasting a year and then it went down to a 30% chance of lasting longer than that.  Then it too would need to be pulled.  So we thought it would be less traumatic if she had them both pulled at once while she was “out” rather than having the one pulled and then having to go back several times for the stages of the pulpectomy and then having it pulled shortly there after.  So before she turned 3 our little girl “lost” her two front teeth.  (And yes that was the really short story)

We are now hoping that she follows after Kaitlyn who lost her first tooth shortly after turning 5, rather than Spencer who is 6 with no signs of a tooth coming loose any time soon.

My favorite Christmas Present…

and the kids too!  Sorry I am a bad blogger.  I will try to be better.  Yes there are still dishes to be done, laundry to be washed and some already waiting to be folded and a bathroom to clean, but I just had a nagging to do something with my blog so here I sit. 

My favorite Christmas Present I got was a new vacuum.  This was so exciting for me because my last one was so bad that we first had to sweep the carpet and just use the vacuum to try and get as much of the dust out of it as we could.  I got a Dyson Ball for Christmas and I actually enjoy vacuuming the carpets.  First off it works!, plus is is so light weight and it turns and maneuvers so wonderfully.    And can you believe it the kids actually fight to see who GETS to vacuum the floor.  I have been keeping it in the corner kind of behind the TV because it is small and I use it multiple times a day (oh yeah and probably the biggest reason is that stuff got shoved around in the hall closet by someone other than me and I have not decided to tackle it yet.)   

Even Emmalyn love to pull out the vacuum and clean the carpets, that is when she is not using it as a microphone.  I have been trying to get pictures of her singing into the handle and vacuuming but she always runs away and pouts when she sees me watching her.  I was able to get just this one shot of her last month. 

Baby Its Cold Outside

Well I am finally back and have quite a few things I need to update this blog with but I will start with the most recent events first.  IT SNOWED AND STUCK!  I know for most of you snow is not a big deal but this is Sacramento, California, we are not supposed to get snow!  We were just about 10 miles away from the schools that were closed down because of snow.  I would guess that we had between 3/4 to 1 inch of snow on the ground that stayed but I have not seen an official total.  We have seen the occasional flurry every few years or so but this stuff actually stuck.  The kids were so excited at first to go out and check out the snow, but it lasted less than a minute before they got too cold and wanted to go back in.  It was a really pretty sight to see all of the palm trees in the neighborhood covered with snow.  Here are a few of the pictures I took, but the time I had the camera out, the kids did not want to go out in the snow so they are just of the scenery. 

 

The kids wanted a picture of one of their snow balls.This is some of the snow on my car.  Yes my car was left outside overnight so it sure had a shock, it usually sleeps in the garage, but Scott was planning on taking the kids to school in the morning so we put his car in the garage so it would be warm for the kids.  As you can see from the picture is has started to rain so some of the snow is melting.   But surprisingly even with the rain the snow stayed until about 11:00. 

I really wish that I had a different camera lens so that I could take better pictures of things that are far away.  There were some really pretty tall traditional palm trees cover in snow but I could not get a decent shot of them. 

Something you definitely don’t expect to see, snow on a palm tree.

It is so cold, and our poor kids don't really have any heavy duty jackets because we just plain don't need it, so they wore lots of layer (2 pairs of socks, 3 shirts and 2 hoodies each).  Here is a shot of our thermometer outside. 

So this was all yesterday but today we set more records for the cold, and the layers of ice were so thick the kids thought that it had snowed again.  This morning at 7 when Spencer wanted to wear shorts and short sleeves to school I took him outside and showed him the thermometer and it only said it was 18 outside.  In fact there are still areas in the yard that the sun has not touched and there are still patches of ice and it is nearly 1:00 in the afternoon.  TOOO COLD!
